Review by hotel critic
If you’re looking for a cozy and inviting spot to kick off your Orkney adventure, Kirkwall Youth Hostel is a gem! The staff is truly a highlight here; their warm hospitality made it feel like a home away from home. While I wouldn’t rave about the breakfast options — a little pricey for what you get — I appreciated the chance to self-cater in the well-equipped kitchen, perfect for whipping up something hearty after a long day exploring. I visited with a couple of friends over Easter, and we found the lounge an excellent spot to unwind, complete with comfy seating and a library for the more leisurely moments of our trip. Plus, the wifi helped us share our adventures in real-time, which is always a win for us travel writers! The location is superb for those itching to delve into Orkney's rich tapestry of history, with attractions like the awe-inspiring St Magnus Cathedral just a short stroll away. For the not-so-nimble ones among us, the cleanliness and comfort of the shared bathroom facilities will leave you satisfied after a long day's exploration. All in all, if you're up for a no-fuss, welcoming place to stay with friends, Kirkwall Youth Hostel checks all the boxes. I would wholeheartedly recommend it to fellow beer enthusiasts and travel lovers alike.
